Here's what's going on ......

There are a few changes at the Central Office. We have a new Chairperson;
Chip B. - who has been with the CDCO since its inception in 2005. Chip was the secretary at the first steering committee meeting and has the meeting notes to prove it. Welcome Chip, we know you're up to the job.

This means, of course, that our long tenured Chair is leaving. Trish M. has served as our chairperson for some time and her remarkable tenure of service will leave its mark. We've included a special tribute to her later in the newsletter.

We also have a new volunteer coordinator, Jay G. who will now manage the scheduling for the A.A. volunteers who work in the CDCO office and the Night Owls who answer the helpline after hours. Our great volunteers enable us to provide helpline services 24x7x365 - and they're all recovering members of Alcoholics Anonymous. BTW: we're always looking for volunteers and Jay can be reached at: vc@aaalbanyny.org

We're grateful to our outgoing volunteer coordinator, Allan D. Allan's rotation ends after he helped usher in our online automated scheduling calendar and set up a super communications system to keep all volunteers up to date. Thanks Allan - service well done.

The hits keep coming as the CDCO is also saying hello to a new district. Helpline services will now be provided to those needing help in District 8. We are so glad to be able to be of service to the Oneonta and greater Delaware, Otesego, and Scoharie counties. Not to mention parts of Broome, Chenago, and Montgomery counties. That sure is a lot of territory, but our volunteers are up to it. Welcome to Matt V. who will serve the District 8 Central Office Rep.

Thanks to our Chair for her service

Trish M. came to the Central Office years ago to serve as a volunteer. Those days were somewhat “sketchy” as the CDCO shared space in a rather worn-down, repurposed motel; which served as a halfway point for victims of alcoholism, drug addiction, and mental health woes. The office was exposed by huge glass windows - sort of a fishbowl place where privacy was non existent. To compensate, the volunteers plastered the windows with posters, flyers, and whatever else could be held inlace by scotch tape. And, of course, the door had to be always locked.

Sometime in the fall of 2014 Trish was voted in as chairperson of the Central Office. It was initially intimidating, however she measured up admirably to the task. In fact, it was Trish who led the initiative to relocate the central office to our current location on Computer Drive west in an Albany office park. She described it as a “leap of faith”. Faced with significant rent and cost of operations, the CDCO volunteer team was instrumental in growing contributions from the groups it supported. A significant milestone was the 10th anniversary open house held at the new office in November 2015. Well over 100 people visited the office to celebrate … and the rest is history.

Service is a mainstay of A.A.’s three legacies. Carrying the message and helping another alcoholic represents a core purpose of the Central Office. Trish has always put principals, plans, and policies into action in a way that has fostered teamwork and compassion among our volunteers. The CDCO has been well prepared to continue its mission of responsibility to always be there; whenever an alcoholic reaches out for help - 24x7x365. Thank you Trish for your service.
